This is the turning inward (inversion) of the margin of the eyelid. This results in hair and eyelashes contacting the surface of the eye. Signs include excess tearing, ulcers on the surface of the eye (cornea), and white coloration of the eyelid margin (due to constant contact with tears). This condition occurs most commonly in breeds that typically have skin folds on the face. Breeds prone to have this problem include Shar-Pei, Bloodhounds, Bassets, Mastiff breeds, and Chow Chows. Some Labs and Rottweilers are also affected. Entropions are typically inherited and usually require surgical correction.
