This is a condition that occurs in the carpal (wrist) joint of the front legs of puppies. Instead of the leg being “straight” from the elbow to the foot, there is a distinct curve directly above the foot. This curve is due to laxity in the carpal joint, allowing the joint to drop to the ground. This condition generally occurs in pups raised on suspended flooring and probably reflects poor muscle tone or weakness. It appears to be self-limiting as the puppy matures and receives more exercise. Treatment involves physical therapy (increased exercise) on a surface providing good support and traction.
